A. Bradbury Furniture Restoration. Lee, Southern NHI love furniture restoration. Every item's story is in the workmanship, wood, and usage but mostly in the lives of those who know and treasure the piece. Furniture restorations are always unique too, particularly those with broken pieces or missing parts - like a molding that must be matched, a missing leg found (or rebuilt). This table top was in two pieces; literally cracked in half. It was also cracked near an edge where you can just see a grain change. The base was wobbling all over the place. The owner said she grew up with it, and you could never see the grain because of the dark stain on the top. I repaired the damage, removed the dark stain and tightened the base so it's solid once again.
This walnut rectangular table had a kind of smeared green varnish on it which besides being visually unattractive, covered the beauty of the wood. This old rocker had a lot of family history. Over the years she had acquired a lot of "character" - dings, paint wear, chips and cracks, until one day a 300 lb., 6' 4", fella sat on her and she gave up the ghost.
Shaker turned legs and beaded skirt. Unique Mahogany end or side table hand crafted by yours truly. The top measures 19 3/4" deep X 25 1/2" inches wide, and is 26" high. Large enough to be useful for either an end or side table.
Here's another. This china cupboard (lying on its side in the photo), notice the front leg broken off - but still with us! This will be for sale when I'm finished (serious inquiries welcomed).
As promised, here's the finished job. The top has been sanded, stained, and lacquered, and the legs treated with my secret mixtures to bring them life. I also removed the base from the top to tighten the leaf hinges, and then refastened the table top as most of the fasteners were not even screwed into the top. In fact I replaced one that was too short and did nothing. These end tables are not restorations. I created them from scratch for a client a long time ago. I'm squeezing them into this category as I had no other place to put them, but wanted you to see them in case it compelled you into me building you a pair of heirlooms for your home. | |
